Enable participation. Strengthen visibility.

The Accessibility Reinforcement Act sets new standards for digital services. It is based on WCAG 2.1 AA, the international standard for digital accessibility.

Whether your company is affected depends on the functions of the website. Not only large shops, but also classic company websites with a contact form, booking function or product catalogue must be accessible.

Regardless of whether the aforementioned criteria apply to you, accessibility is worthwile: it improves user-friendliness, enables real participation, strengthens your brand - and ensures better visibility in search engines.

What does barrier-free mean?

Digital accessibility means that websites, apps and digital content are accessible to everyone - including people with visual, hearing or motor impairments. This applies to, for example

  • sufficient contrast
  • Easy-to-read font sizes
  • operability via keyboard
  • Alternative texts (image descriptions for screen readers)
  • a clear structure

Accessibility improves user-friendliness for everyone and ensures better visibility on Google, as accessible pages often rank higher.

You will receive an initial assessment of the digital accessibility of your website - explained in an understandable way, even without prior technical knowledge.

This will help you improve user-friendliness, brand perception and digital visibility.

Frequently asked questions about accessibility

What exactly will apply from 28 June 2025?

This is when the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) comes into force. It obliges certain companies to make their digital offerings accessible - based on the requirements of the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).

For whom is digital accessibility mandatory?

For companies that offer products or services to end consumers - e.g. websites with a contact form, booking function or online shop. Many service providers, banks, transport companies and software providers are also affected.

What does barrier-free mean in concrete terms - what do I need to look out for?

The WCAG 2.1 AA criteria define international standards for digital accessibility. These include, among other things:

  • Sufficient contrast between text and background
  • Clear structure and logical headings
  • Usability via keyboard (without mouse)
  • Texts in simple language
  • Alternative texts for images (e.g. image descriptions for screen readers)
  • Recognisable links, buttons and controls
  • Responsive display on different devices
  • No content that runs automatically or flashes

These requirements not only improve accessibility for people with disabilities, but also ensure better usability in general.

Do I have to implement everything immediately?

The accessibility obligation will apply from 28 June 2025 - without a transition period. If your website is affected, you must fulfil all requirements by then. Our free check gives you an overview and shows you whether there is a need for action and what you can do step by step until then.

What happens if my website is not accessible?

Infringements can be reported and prosecuted - by consumers or associations. It therefore makes sense to check at an early stage whether and how you need to take action.

What are the benefits of accessibility for my company?

Accessible websites offer a better user experience for everyone - and reach more people. They have a positive effect on your brand perception, your conversion rate and your Google ranking.

What does the barrier check cost?

Nothing at all. Our check is free and non-binding.
